Photographs often know before photographers do.
Certain people keep appearing.
Certain places call us back.
Colours, gestures, emotions and questions return across years of making photographs.
Individually, the images may seem unrelated.
Together, they begin to form a language.
Afterlight is an invitation to listen to that language.
We’ll look at individual photographs, but also at what happens between them: recurring ideas, relationships, contradictions, unfinished projects and the things you might have been photographing without fully understanding why.Certain people keep appearing.
We can talk about editing, sequencing, archives, books, zines, exhibitions—or simply the question you haven’t found an answer to yet.
There is no fixed formula.
We follow the work.
My role is not to tell you what your work should become.
My role is to help you recognize what it has already been becoming.
How Afterlight works.
01 — YOU
We begin with the person behind the photographs.
Where you come from. What matters to you. What you’re questioning. What keeps pulling you back to photography.
02 — THE PHOTOGRAPHS
Then we look.
A project. Twenty photographs. Several bodies of work. An archive you’ve been building for fifteen years.
You don’t need a finished portfolio.
Bring what needs to be looked at.
03 — THE THIRD VOICE
At the end of our conversation, if you want to, I invite one tarot card into the room.
Not as prediction or answer, but as another perspective on where your practice might be asking you to look next.
You don’t need to believe in tarot.
The photographer has a voice.
The photographs have a voice.
Sometimes it helps to invite a third voice into the room.
04 — THE REMINDER
Nine days later, I return to you with a personal reflection on what stayed with me from our conversation and a second tarot card drawn for that moment.
Because sometimes we need a little distance before something becomes visible.

WHO WILL BE LOOKING WITH YOU?
I’m ZOTEYE, a Berlin-based documentary photographer.
I’ve been photographing since I was around ten years old and working professionally since 2000.
My practice has moved through long-term documentary projects, commissioned photography, publishing, exhibitions, books, film and visual storytelling.
For five years, I also led photography for Proximus in Belgium, defining its photographic identity and working together with approximately fifteen creative agencies while overseeing around €250,000 in photography production each year.
I’ve spent much of my life making photographs, and years selecting them, commissioning them, editing them, sequencing them and questioning them.
I’m not asking you to come because I have all the answers.
I’m asking you to come because I know how to look.
Bring the work you understand. Bring the work you don’t. Leave seeing it differently.
Every photograph deserves to be understood before it is judged.
