I had never seen a foundry on the inside until the day I walked into Glidewell Specialties Foundry in Birmingham, Alabama. Yes, I was impressed. Yes, I needed some time to absorb the energy and visual overload of lines, fire, circles, squares, darkness, brightness and people. The last one being the most interesting to photograph.

I walked around in the foundry for 2 full days. The first day I was accompanied by one of the owners, the second day I walked on my own. Exploring. Seeing. Absorbing. Photographing. It was an experience I will never forget and the photographs are a statement of that. I learned a lot about the productions they are known for but as well about the people working there and how they are a tight family who take care of each other.

A selection of the work I created in those two days has been printed and is hanging on the walls of the offices of the foundry as a permanent exhibit. The total image bank that has been delivered of this documentary work has 500+ photographs in it.
