Black Gold Amsterdam is one of those rare places that quietly becomes part of a city’s identity. Founded by Siebrand van Hengel through a Kickstarter campaign more than a decade ago, it sits at the intersection of two obsessions: exceptional coffee and carefully selected vinyl records.
Over the years, Black Gold has become much more than a café or record store. It is a place where conversations unfold, discoveries are made, and hours disappear unnoticed. While Siebrand and his team serve some of Amsterdam’s finest coffee, they are equally dedicated to the music that fills the space, creating an atmosphere that invites people to slow down and stay a little longer.
The photographs shown here were created for Black Gold’s communication channels. They document the people, rituals, details, and energy that make the place what it is. As a documentary photographer, I am always searching for spaces with a strong sense of identity. Black Gold is one of those places.
Perhaps this text sounds more affectionate than objective. That is because some projects stay with you long after the work is finished. This was one of them.
